Summer 2010

Oncourse Site (login required)

See the course syllabus for details of course assignments and readings. The course text is The Sociology of Mental Illness: A Comprehensive Reader, edited by Jane McLeod and Eric Wright (Oxford, 2009). It is available at campus and off-campus bookstores and online. All other readings will be posted on Oncourse.

There are a number of themes that we will return to in many course lectures, and you can expect to be asked about them on exams and in your writing assignment. To help you keep organized, I have provided a list of the course themes. Reflect back on these themes as you complete your reading before class and as a review for assignments.

In addition, this course will likely introduce you to a number of terms and acronyms you might be unfamiliar with that deal with mental health and treatment. In some cases the terms might be quite familiar, but we are using them in a different way. To help you make sure you are keeping up with these terms (which I will expect you to use correctly in assignments, exams, and course discussions, I have also provided a list of terms for your review.
